Out Front!!

Because I <3 his work so much and the fact that Mr. Roach plays drums on this album, here is another by Booker Little. The compositions and performances on this 1961 record are nothing short of stellar. A true masterpiece. More info is HERE. Enjoy.

Booker Little!!

Some album info from Amazon.com:
Digitally remastered two-fer features Booker Little's complete recorded discography as a leader with tenor saxophone virtuoso George Coleman. The 1958 album Booker Little 4 & Max Roach and 1961 release Booker Little and Friend mark the trumpeter's recording debut as a leader and his final album respectively. It is interesting to note Booker Little's evolution as both a composer and improviser by comparing his first album with his last. The exquisite compositions 'Victory And Sorrow', 'Looking Ahead' and 'Matilde' show just how far the young trumpeter had grown as a writer. Lone Hill Jazz.

This guy was incredibly talented and unfortunately died too young. HERE is more on the man. Well, enjoy.

Hip Hug-Her!!

By no means a rarity, but I picked this up at work for a couple bucks and we all know that Booker T. brings the funk consistently. In conclusion, here is this 1967 release to crank up and dance with your "significant other". I know this will brighten your day. Enjoy.

500 Miles High!!

An out there 1974 live performance by Flora Purim. It's an odd sound done with passion and confidence, but Flora's vocals can border on "Yoko Ono-ish" making for less than pleasurable moments. Nevertheless, there are some cool bosses on this such as Herbie Mann and Ron Carter (who by his own admission has been on some 2,000+ albums!). Find more info HERE. Enjoy.

And Yet Another Awakening!!

Wow, there are a lot of jazz albums entitled 'The Awakening'. This time it's by bad ass Billy Harper in 1979. If you love Coltrane than this album is sure to deliver. More info is HERE. Enjoy.

Lift Every Voice!!

I love anything by Andrew Hill, especially this one. It's a 2001 reissue CD of the 1969 Blue Note album with the bonus of adding 5 other songs recorded a little later in 1970. With bosses like Lee Morgan, Ron Carter, Richard Davis, and Woody Shaw we can all rest assured that this one will suffice. Enjoy

The Best Of Invictus Records!!

If you enjoyed the posting of 8th Day, then I am confident you'll want this volume one overview of the label which put that drop out on the scene. Not all of the tracks on here are smashing, but the majority are. Here is what Allmusic.com has to say (Invictus Unconquered). But f*#k what a website determines; Decide for yourself. You know you want it, so have at it!

P.s. Sorry, but no Vol.2 at this time :(

The Burton Greene Trio!!

'On Tour' came out in 1968 and is most definitely a free jazz album. Only the true nerds of free form jazz can endure and enjoy this one. You will either find it interesting or decide to totally disregard it, never to give it a listen again. Enjoy....or maybe not.

Go, Hagood, Go!!

Hagood Hardy mostly composed music for television and movies. However, he did make some 'traditional' albums as well. Here is a 1972 drop entitled 'Montage'. It carries a Herb Pilhofer style of production-pop-funk-jazz that is sure to delight your day with a ray of sunshine. Enjoy!

Armed & Dangerous!!

Two things this time. One is a new selection and the other is a re-up of Brute Force's Brute Force (found here). The new addition is by The Woodstock Work Band. I don't know what to think about this one. Allmusic lists it's genre as Jazz and Counrty in a Bluegrass and Progressive Bluegrass style. To be honest, I'd agree with that for all but a couple cuts like the cover of 'I Got A Light', which keeps it funky with horns included. Anyway, you decide on this one. Enjoy.

New addition.
