Cafe Extra Ordinaire Story !!

In Minneapolis, he ran a jazz venue which went through many tribulations, including lack of funding, drugs, and the police. Bobby was able to grab performances by Freddie Hubbard, Roland Kirk, and Elvin Jones. Even a native young man named Prince strolled in to enjoy the sounds. This albums release was 8 years in the making, in very limited quantities, and had no distribution whatsoever! This is deep Soul Jazz at its finest.

Eddie Palmieri's parents moved from Puerto Rico to South Bronx in 1926. There, he and his brother Charlie were born. He was very musically inclined, performing at Carnegie Hall at age 11, and devouring many styles, both Latin and American. Eddie's first professional group was Conjunto La Perfecta which featured singer Ismael Quintana. This would be just the beginning of a prolific career in which Latin sounds would remain a deep source of inspiration and inclination. His discography is well worth investigating. Palmieri's band Harlem River Drive is my favorite of that catalogue, and probably the most popular of his work. Here's a great article on the group

A native of Houston, he and The Jazz Crusaders fled to L.A. in the beginning 60's to find more fertile ground. Wayne left the group around the time the name changed to The Crusaders ('69-ish) to pursue a producing career, and a fairly decent one at that, spanning from 1967 to 1993. In 2007 he took a position at the California College of Music. He passed away in 2014

Booker Little !!

Booker lived only 23 years (dying of complications from uremia), and yet had a remarkable career, working with serious heavyweights like Coltrane, Dolphy, Clifford Brown, Sonny Rollins, and of course Max Roach.
